All mass within the frame which is not needed directly for structural integrity has been removed. The result is less mass, and a slightly larger sound chamber. Less mass means that the exchange of energy produced by the strings is less impeded by the frame. The frame contributes less to the sound than the top and back, but must be very strong to withstand the pull of about 1,800 pounds or more from the compression of the strings. Of course the other advantage is weight. Our autoharps are already lighter in weight than most, and we shed a few more ounces from the weight of a standard Cascade. Each Ultralite comes with all the features of our standard Cascade and a soft case. Plus each has abalone purfling and sound hole rosette. Add a pickup, either our standard Schreiber magnetic pickup or a piezo style, with internal wiring and 1/4" jack, for $198.00.
